Penticton is the Peach City between two lakes — the Okanagan Valley community between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake where the Penticton Peach Festival (one of BC's most beloved summer festivals, held since 1948, celebrating the tree fruit harvest with live music, a spectacular parade, and the Miss Peach Queen pageant), the Ironman Canada triathlon (one of North America's most challenging Ironman events, held annually since 1983, drawing 3,000 competitors to the Okanagan for the 3.8 km swim/180 km bike/42 km run course that uses both Okanagan and Skaha lakes) and the SS Sicamous (a fully restored 1914 CPR sternwheeler beached at the Penticton waterfront) make Penticton one of the Okanagan's most event-intensive communities.
